Michel Schweizer is always suspicious of consensus. Instead of the monotonous ‘little things of life’ that most often govern human relationships, he prefers encounters ‘that require commitment, effort and risk, that give a new twist to naturally practised seduction techniques’.
In the theatre, a prime location for experiencing the Other and an echo chamber for the modern world, he brings together small provisional communities, highlighting their singularities and disrupting their know-how.
For Les Diables (The Devils), seven mentally-handicapped professional actors come together on stage to spotlight an issue that life tends to make us forget: normality can sometimes shift. The interaction between actors and audience is charged with caustic humour and a diabolic intensity.
