Santarcangelo dei Teatri, Santarcangelo di Romagna, Italy
Santarcangelo dei Teatri organizes Santarcangelo Festival, one of the main international performing arts festivals in Italy. For 47 years, it contributed significantly to the development of contemporary theatre and new audiences, and the international community considers it among the most innovative theatre festivals of the region. Every year in July, Santarcangelo becomes a theatre town, with a lively program of events, over half of them for free in public space. It represents a place for artistic creation and exchange and laboratory for emerging artists. In the last years the festival developed projects engaging local and international artists within the local community for long periods, also commissioning projects directly related to the town, its public space and its inhabitants.
In addition to the festival, Santarcangelo dei Teatri runs an international residency program for performing artists and other professionals working in the art field, hosting around 200 artists a year.
